The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), nicknamed "The Big Board," is the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization, representing over $30 trillion in assets. Located at 11 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, it is a symbol of American financial power and the primary venue for trading "blue-chip" companies like Walmart, Berkshire Hathaway, and Coca-Cola.

Unlike purely electronic markets, the NYSE maintains a hybrid model. While most trades are executed electronically, Designated Market Makers (DMMs) still operate on the famous physical trading floor to facilitate liquidity and manage volatility during market opens and closes. The "Opening Bell" (9:30 AM ET) and "Closing Bell" (4:00 PM ET) are iconic daily rituals often broadcast globally.

Trading Nuances: The NYSE does not have a lunch break, operating continuously for 6.5 hours. However, it does employ "Circuit Breakers"—automatic halts triggered if the S&P 500 drops by 7%, 13%, or 20% intraday to prevent panic selling.
